RoboCop: Prime WIP 18th Mar '14 by Carnivius RoboCop: Prime WIP 18th Mar '14 by Carnivius
Managed to put together a decent looking recovery room for RoboCop using mostly tiles recycled from elsewhere in the game (such as the exterior set's chain-link fences, the OCP corridors walls/elevator, and even the top of the exective office door is being used as just windows, the new TV/VCR comes from the exterior shops and the TV is also the cabinet monitor in the arcade level).  The only all-new elements are the floor tiles, Robo in sitting position, his chair and Dr Marie Lazarus, the techy from RoboCop 3 (and who is in a skirt here because her leg sprites will be shared by the prostitutes... *ahem*)

Bonus points if you can tell what's on the screen of the left TV.

Regular size, non-scanline version can be seen at carnivac.tumblr.com/post/80001…

As usual Amstrad CPC, Mode 0 resolution with 16 colours and those chunky wide-pixels

looks great man as always. maybe instead of having the I'd buy that for a dollar guy on the tvs in his chair-room, you could have the sequence open with him dreaming of his family or his death and you can see it on the screens! big robocop 1 reference :D

Um.  That'd be quite difficult to fit into the space of the TV's and still be clearly recognisable.   Anyways he's only on the TV here as an example.

When you are at rest, you will sit in a chair. ;) Looks great.

I wish NECA would make the chair.  Hot Toys are too much.

That one may be the last one unless they resign for the license or something.

A RoboCain would be good if they make one. You've not got your RebootCop figure yet then?

I asked on their twitter.  RoboCain is unlikely as it took them about a decade to get ED-209 approved and made due to size and the more limited market for larger figures (a lot of shops don't want ED-209 sized things on their shelves when the regular figures are much easier to hang up and display and such).

And nope I haven't got either of my new figures yet.

That sucks that there will be no RoboCain. But I guess it's understandable. I think they have only ever made one RoboCain figure and that was that tiny one from those blind boxes.

Yeah I never did get that one even though I bought 14 boxes.  Still selling off the ones I did get.  Already made the money back and still have some left over to make more.

I actually saw one of those Cains go on ebay cheap.  I don't think people realised what it was cos it wasn't assembled and the sticker on the box (not blind boxes at all.  All mine have labels on top) says MK II as in RoboCop Mark 2 rather than RoboCain.  I wish I'd bid but I forgot.   The ED-209 from that same seller went for 30.

I got RebootCop yesterday (he arrived Friday but I was at a driving lesson).  He's not bad at all.  Being 6 inches I don't have any original RoboCops of same size but he's same size as my Superman and even one of the Terminators (that I got off ebay for 3 and free delivery from hong kong).  His visor does look nice lit up and it's cool that it looks black when it's not lit (unlike the RoboCop figures which light up but still have a red visor when not lit).  Not a bad figure but they should have at least made it 7 inches to stand next to the NECA Robos.

Big news at the GDC regarding Game Maker: Studio is that it'll be possible to make games for PS3, PS4 and Vita.  =)

Wow. That is big news. Although considering how much they charge for gamemaker these days id actually expect it.

When i had it, it cost less then $20.

Yeah but these days with all the export options it's reasonably easy to make the money back in sales and then some.

True but look at this way. Gamemaker was used mostly by people starting out. Kids, teenagers.

Some used it proffessionally but that wasnt many. I tried to just didnt have the money to.

So what there asking is kind of silly in regards to whos buying it. But with vita support if i can play what i make without going through sony then ill be buying it.

I also have a funny story about fool. While learning to be like you i was stuck on the drawing side of things. And fool really impressed me when i seen his stuff. So i sent him a note on here and asked how his so good at drawing. He replied saying he considers his pencil skills to be pretty bad.

I thought to myself if your bad, then what does that make me?

You start slow making the money.  Release it on PC first via Steam or whatever, make some money, then buy maybe the iOS or Android modules and your game gets out to more people and brings it more money and then eventually purchase the PlayStation modules for however much they'll cost and then you'll make that money back too with each increase in potential gaming audience.

Just saw this, my friend's game in progress Savage: The Shard of Gosen running on a PS4 at the GDC twitter.com/griffinmatta/statu…; As far as I know he had no real input in that, they just took the game, plonked it straight onto PS4 and it works.   Which is awesome cos I was hoping he would get to make a PlayStation version someday and it suddenly just got super-easy.  =)

Hm, odd it worked earlier but doesn't now.

Making money has absolutely nothing to do with how good your game is.   Yes, some good games make money but look at all the absolute shite that makes money... Flappy Bird for one... what the FUCK is that about?   Not original, not inventive, not even well made... and it made the guy a fortune.

not sure if you being sarcastic cos it's not beautiful at all.  =p     It's functional though and given that 95% of it is recycled from tiles created for other levels I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.

Your being to hard on yourself. I wasnt being sarcastic, i actually do love it.

Although i did notice you reused the city in the background from an old space shooter piece you did. But it looked good so i wasnt bothered at all.

And we really do need more games that have your art style on the consoles.

Reused the city?  Hm nope i didn't.  It may have been similar in design being dark sillohuettes with the windows lit up and slanty roofs but they're not the same tiles at all.   The ones from the shooter mock up had a lot more shading on them as they were meant to appear much closer to the action than the buildings in this game.

Thanks though.  =)

I was?   Well that's cool. =)

Pretty easy to get as good as me... now if you'd said snake or fool or something.  The true pixel artists, yeah that would be a bit ambitious for most folks =p

Nice, I also see on one tv screen mr "I would buy that for a dollar" :)
I think this room need more cables and computer stuff like big 80's printers and mainframes that use giant tapes.

Maybe but I want the room to still look fairly clean and at least somewhat accurate to the one in the film and that I'm starting to run out of tile space for the whole game and want to make sure I got enough left for any important stuff I might have forgotten so far.

Glad you recognised the guy on the TV though.  I wasn't sure if it would work at that size and resolution but I guess so. =)
